Listen to Voces Humanas (Motion Picture Soundtrack), the latest release from Stuart Ironside! Available on Bandcamp!
Stuart Ironside (he/they) is a British guitarist combining classical technique with global influences and the sounds of nature to create a unique musical language.
Currently based in Estonia, Stuart is a graduate of Cardiff University and SOAS University of London. Through his studies of classical music, British folk song, West African Mande music and Javanese gamelan, Stuart has been developing his style of playing through exploring his connection to each of these musics and finding his own voice.
Stuart released his debut album ‘The Wallace Line’ in 2022, followed by an EP of the soundtrack from the short film ‘Voces Humanas’, written and directed by Florencia Cáceres, in 2024. Stuart’s recent musical projects, inspired by life in Estonia, have explored dance and movement, interactions with nature and extended improvisations. Stuart emphasises connection to the natural world, freedom in performance and embracing meditative states through his free-flowing mind playing and evocative sound.
Stuart’s second album will be released in December 2025. Recorded live in the forests of Northern Estonia, this album of arrangements, compositions and improvisations is a duet between Stuart and the natural world.
Stuart is one of those rare musicians who finds inspiration from a heady mix of eclectic influences. He wraps them up in thoughtful compositions and performances and we are all the better for it.

A showcase of Stuart’s love of folk, African and Indonesian music through the language of the classical guitar.
Stuart Ironside has been teaching for the last seven years, giving one-to-one guitar lessons and workshops in a wide range of styles and genres.
Central to Stuart’s teaching philosophy is the belief that all music (classical, popular and Non-Western music) must be accessible to as many people as possible, and that the guitar can be an effective tool at introducing and teaching music from many different cultures. Stuart has given workshops in schools and guitar festivals using this philosophy, teaching classical and West African guitar to small and large groups.
Stuart’s lessons and workshops are interactive, performance based and focused on not using notation - even total beginners can participant, and all students gain a new appreciation for the magic of the guitar. Stuart offers teaching in classical, folk, rock/pop and West African styles.

Stuart has recorded with and played in Duo Compass since 2024 with Karoliine-Lisette Kõiv.
Compass are a folk duo from Estonia and the U.K., finding links between the Nordic-Baltic region and the British Isles through their tunes and songs. With both of them having feet in multiple musical worlds, they bring music from the Nordic, Baltic and British nations together with grooves from jazz and African music in a cultural melting pot that will inspire. The dance tunes are groovy and the songs will break your heart, but you will be amazed at the sounds these two can create.
